AV-TEST Awards 2025 for Norton
For quite some time, robust cybersecurity has not only been a guarantor of data protection. In times of ransomware, infostealers and other dangerous malware, it is all the more important to provide all-round protection, e.g. for identities, financial, system and network information. AV-TEST experts in the test labs ascertain in thousands of tests which protection products on the market keep their protection promise for Windows, Mac and Android, and based on the findings, the lab issues certificates for tested security. The AV-TEST Awards 2025 mark the 15th time that the institute has recognized the best security products for consumer users and companies that have consistently proven themselves with top scores in all tests. Norton 360 from Gen Digital wins the 2025 Awards in the consumer user test categories Best Usability and Best MacOS Security for its error-free detection of harmless and dangerous files and the resulting prevention of false alarms, as well as for its reliable protection of systems with MacOS.
AV-TEST Award – for tested and reliable IT security
There are many product reviews on the Internet. But truly professional tests always adhere to standards and are therefore fully comprehensible and reproducible at all times – as has been the case with all tests in the labs of the AV-TEST Institute for over 20 years.
All tested products for Windows, Mac and Android platforms for consumer users or corporate users are subject to these test standards, which can also be viewed on the AV-TEST website. The testers document the test findings with great reliability and extreme precision. They only award a certificate for tested security if a product fulfills the set test criteria in the evaluated areas of Protection, Performance and Usability. If the results are outstanding, products also earn further recognition as a TOP PRODUCT.
Along with testing Windows solutions at set intervals, the laboratory also carries out Advanced Threat Protection tests, or ATP tests for short. In these special tests, the security products have to prove themselves repeatedly in real-life scenarios in which, depending on the threat situation, the latest attack techniques from ransomware and infostealers are deployed.
All products continuously proving themselves in the ongoing tests by achieving top scores are found in the latest AV-TEST Awards 2025 evaluation matrix. This year, the test experts at the AV-TEST Institute are presenting 25 awards to 12 different manufacturers. The awards are available in 11 categories, divided into Protection, Performance, Usability and Advanced Protection under Windows. Added to this are Mac Security and Android Security. Every manufacturer can rightfully take pride in their award – some of them even with several awards – as the pathway to one of the coveted trophies is long. Consumer users and corporate users can quickly identify reliable and continuously tested protection products on the basis of the award. In doing so, they acquire an important element of security or may even already be making use of it.
AV-TEST Awards for Norton – special recognition for strong IT security
The total number of special malware for MacOS is indeed lower than with Windows, but the AV-TEST databases have now registered one million malware samples targeting Macs. These also include the latest malware samples, such as ransomware or infostealers. Those wanting to keep their data safe and secure can rely on a protection solution such as Norton 360 for their MacOS system. Last year, the security package delivered only top results in all tests conducted by the laboratory experts. For this strong performance, the AV-TEST team presents Norton 360 with the Best MacOS Security 2025 Award for consumer users.
However, the Windows version of Norton 360 also always delivered strong results in the usability tests in 2025. The experts examined how well the protection solution can differentiate between harmless and dangerous files and applications. If this does not work, it is called a false alarm. But that's precisely what didn't happen to Norton 360 in the tests. The distinction between friend and foe was always at its best and there were no unnecessary alarms. For these test results, the AV-TEST Institute confers on Norton 360 from the Gen Digital group the Best Usability 2025 Award for Consumer Users.
"Consumer users expect protection packages to successfully safeguard their systems. The MacOS protection package Norton 360 met both user and tester expectations in this respect, delivering only top scores in the tests. The same applied to the Windows version of Norton 360. It demonstrated what a solution can achieve without producing false alarms, also referred to in the industry as false positives. Thus, we congratulate the Norton 360 team on the two awards Best MacOS Security and Best Usability under Windows and present the two accolades in the award year 2025", says Marcel Wabersky, Lead Mobile & Network Testing at AV-TEST.
