In a comprehensive evaluation, AV-TEST analyzed security products for consumer users and corporate users. All products were required to stand up against the latest ransomware techniques. Those deployed included shrewd techniques such as polyglot files, DLL sideloading or nested password protected self-extracting archives, as they are also used by Emotet when attacking systems. A total of 25 products were put to the test and were successful in many challenges – but not in all. For many security manufacturers, it is once again time for a small drumroll: The lab at AV-TEST evaluated all the test data of the year 2022 and determined the best products in their test category. Now it is time to recognize these software products with the international accolade for IT security, the AV-TEST Award. This year, the AV-TEST Institute is giving a total of 27 awards to products from 14 well-known security companies. Also this year, the institute is giving initial awards for ADVANCED PROTECTION under Windows, alongside previous test categories of PROTECTION, PERFORMANCE and USABILITY for Windows, as well as ANDROID SECURITY and MAC SECURITY. In all categories, AV-TEST is recognizing products for consumer users and for companies with the coveted award. The curtain’s up and it’s time for the winners to take the stage.

With the AV-TEST Award 2022, the AV-TEST Institute declares the best products in the area of IT Security. The globally known and renowned research institute for IT security examined the lion's share of security products on the market for consumer users and corporate users for a whole year in its laboratories. The award assessment was based on all the findings the experts derived and recorded within the one-year cycle for each product. With its award, AV-TEST honors products that were able to achieve consistent peak ratings in the long-term results. The 2022 Awards in the three test categories of Best Protection for Consumer Users under Windows, Best Android Security for Consumer Users and Best MacOS Security for Consumer Users go to Avast.
